Test Utility
This test provides information about the WBC (white blood cells) in a blood sample. It is often used in the identification of hematological disorders such as leukemia, inflammatory disease, as well as other disorders.

Methodology
The WBC is performed on the Sysmex XN Series Hematology Analyzer. This analyzer uses electronic resistance detection, photometric analysis and flow cytometry with a semiconductor laser to determine whole blood diagnostic parameters.

Specimen Collection and Preparation
Whole blood sample in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: Lavender Top K2 EDTA tube. (Minimum Whole Blood: 1.5 mL)
Also acceptable: Light blue top sodium citrate tube (Minimum Whole Blood: 1.5 mL)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store whole blood at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 24 hours (<8 hours ideal)
Refrigerated 2°C to 8°C: 48 hours
Frozen: Do not freeze
