Test Utility
This assay detects all antibodies against HAV to determine if the patient has a current or past infection. It is often used to determine if the patient has been vaccinated or used in conjunction with other tests to verify a current or past infection.

Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum or plasma sample in the following tubes:
Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top)
EDTA (lavender top) and Lithium/Sodium Heparin (green top)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store serum or plasma at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: Up to 12 hours
Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C for up to 24 hours (Primary tube samples – stoppered and upright)
Primary samples include serum on the clot, plasma on packed red cells gel barrier collection tubes
2°C to 8°C for up to 7 days (Secondary tube samples– stoppered and upright)
Frozen: -20°C or lower for up to 1 year. Samples should not be thawed more than 4 times.
Thoroughly mix and centrifuge thawed samples for 2 minutes before using. The supernatant should be collected in a clean vial.

HAV is a reportable infection. Reactive results will be reported to the Oakland County Health Department by VHL.
