Test Utility
Test dsDNA is intended for the in vitro quantitative measurement of IgG antibodies in serum that are directed to dsDNA. The test can be used as an aid in the clinical diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in conjunction with additional laboratory and clinical findings. Additionally, the determination of dsDNA antibodies is a tool to monitor the clinical course of a defined SLE patient, because a clear-cut relationship exists between the anti-dsDNA titer and disease activity, in particular renal involvement.

Reference Range
The assay provides a numerical result in IU/mL and interpretative comments based on the numerical results:
<10 IU/mL = Negative; 10-15 IU/mL = Equivocal; >15 IU/mL = Positive
The dsDNA is calibrated against the 1st International Standard for anti-double-stranded DNA coded Wo/80.
Antibody prevalence in autoimmune patients varies widely depending on disease area. The proportion of sera from normal population found positive for dsDNA antibodies covered by this EliA dsDNA test is below 1%. Expected values may vary depending on the population tested.
It is recommended to repeat equivocal results, after 8-12 weeks.
