Test Utility
This test is used to determine if a person has been infected with the cytomegalovirus. This test tells immune status and not when the patient was infected or if the infection is current.

The CMV IgG assay is a 2-step sandwich immunoassay that uses indirect chemiluminometric technology.

Reflex to UTI Criteria
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum or plasma samples in the following tubes:
- Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top) 
- EDTA (lavender top) OR Heparin (green top) 
Specimen Storage and Stability
Separate serum and plasma within 24 hours and store samples at the following temperatures:
- Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C up to 48 hours 
- Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 7 days 
- Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 12 months. Samples should be thawed no more than 3 times. 
Specimen Rejection
- Insufficient sample volume 
- Sample not stored at proper temperature 
- Frozen whole blood 
- Severely hemolyzed samples 
- Severely lipemic specimens 
- Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
