CCP antibody is an in-vitro semi-quantitative measurement of IgG antibodies directed to CCP in human serum. The presence of anti-CCP antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests as an aid in the clinical diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Specimen Collection and Preparation
Collect serum in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: One Gold-top SST tube (Minimum serum volume: 1.0 mL)
Also Acceptable: Plain red top (Minimum serum volume: 1.0 mL)
Pour serum into plastic, pour off tube and label with patient identifiers as well as the source of serum (gold top or red top).
Specimen Storage and Stability
Sample should be centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection, and serum/plasma separated as soon as possible.
Serum specimens at the following temperatures:
Room temperature (20–26°C): 72 hours
Refrigerated (2–8°C): 1 week
Note: samples are stored at 2-8C for 7 days before disposal

Reference Range
The assay provides a numerical result in EliA U/mL and interpretative comments based on the numerical result:
<7.0 EliA U/mL= Negative; 7.0-10.0 EliA U/mL = Equivocal; >10.0 EliA U/mL = Positive
It is recommended to repeat equivocal results, after 8-12 weeks.
A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single diagnostic method but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated.
Not all individuals with RA will have detectable anti-CCP antibodies and elevated anti-CCP antibodies may be seen in individuals with no evidence of clinical disease. The use of anti-CCP antibody levels for monitoring the progression and/or remission of RA has not been established. The diagnostic value of anti-CCP antibodies has not been determined for juvenile arthritis.
