Specimen Collection and Preparation
Nasopharyngeal Swab - specialized swab with longer, flexible shaft and mini-tip (flocked, foam or spun synthetic with aluminum shaft) in the following tubes (1–3 mL):
- UTM 
- M4/M4RT/M5/M6 viral transport media 
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store the swab at the following temperatures:
- Room temperature: 25°C ± 2°C up to 2 days 
- Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C for up to 4 days 
- Frozen: ≤ –70°C up to 5 months 
Specimen Rejection
- Received > 4 days after collection 
- Swab missing 
- < 50µL volume 
- Broken or leaking tube 
- Visible contamination present
