Test Utility
Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) screening is helpful in identifying, in conjunction with other laboratory findings, conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma, and polymyositis/dermatomyositis.

Individual Test Information Including Methodology & Reference Ranges
This is a test panel comprising of 2 different tests, double stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibody and a screen test for ENA antibodies. If either of these tests are positive, the ANA screen is Positive. Additionally, if the screen test for ENA antibodies is positive, a reflex to add the 8 individual antibodies is performed.
Note: if only the dsDNA is positive, the ANA screen is Positive, but there is no reflex test
performed.
Please see individual tests, dsDNA and ENA antibodies (see the list below), for more information on individual test methodology and reference Intervals.
dsDNA (double-stranded DNA)
<10 IU/mL = Negative; 10-15 IU/mL = Equivocal; >15 IU/mL = Positive
ENA antibody screen (U1RNP, RNP, SS-A/Ro, SS-B/La, Centromere B, Scl-70, Jo-1 proteins and synthetic SMD3 peptide)
<0.7 ratio = Negative; 0.7-1.0 ratio = Equivocal; >1.0 ratio = Positive
Reflex to UTI Criteria
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Venipuncture, Gel barrier tube preferred.
Plain red top also acceptable.
5.0mL blood minimum.
Pour serum into plastic pour off tube, label with source of serum (gold top or red top).
Specimen Storage and Stability
Centrifuge and transport to laboratory at room temperature.
Samples are stable for 1 week when stored at 2-8C.
Note: samples are stored at 2-8C for 7 days before disposal
Specimen Rejection
Improper/incomplete labeling;
improper sample type;
Quantity insufficient (QNS);
lipemic or hemolyzed samples cannot be used.
