Methodology

Albumin concentration is measured using a turbidimetric method.

Test Utility

Used to help determine if a patient has or will develop nephropathy. It is often used to monitor renal function in diabetic patients.

Random urine

Specimen Storage and Stability

  • Refrigerated (2 – 8° C): 1 month

  • Frozen samples are not recommended

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

  • Turbid samples

Result available within 24 hours of receipt in laboratory

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
