Methodology

Utilizes a two-site immunoenzymatic (“sandwich”) assay

Test Utility

Used for the quantitative determination of cardiac troponin I levels in human serum and plasma to aid in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI).

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Plasma sample in the following tubes:

  • Lithium Heparin tube (green top)

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store serum at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 15°C to 25°C no longer than 4 hours

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 48 hours

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 7 days

Specimen Rejection

  • Serum tubes or inappropriate tubes

  • Broken or leaking tube

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Specimen hemolyzed

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

Result available within 24 hours of receipt in laboratory STAT results available within 2 hours of receipt in the laboratory 

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal (note stability requirement above)
