Methodology

Multiplex Real-Time PCR single tube assay using pre-spotted plates

Test Utility

This is a qualitative assay for the identification of DNA from the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis from individuals with clinical signs and symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

  • Urine (CCM/C&S): With or without Boric Acid preservative – 1 mL minimum 

  • Copan eSwab – 1 mL minimum

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store urine and swabs at the following temperature: 

  • Room Temperature: 24 hours 

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 7 days

Specimen Rejection

Received outside of stability -Specimen not stored properly 

  • < 1 mL volume -Broken or leaking container  

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

Result available within 48-72 hours of receipt in laboratory  NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
