This is a competitive binding immunoenzymatic assay.
Test Utility
Used for the quantitative determination of total testosterone levels, both bound and unbound. Testosterone is a hormone found in both males and females and is involved in many aspects of human sexual development.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum or plasma sample in the following tubes:
Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top)
Lithium Heparin (green top)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store serum or plasma at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C no longer than 8 hours
Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 48 hours
Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 7 days
Specimen Rejection
Broken or leaking tube
Insufficient sample volume
Frozen whole blood
Specimen hemolyzed
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
