Methodology

This is a paramagnetic particle, chemiluminescent immunoassay.

Test Utility

This test is used to help diagnosis acute or active infection, or to determine the immunity status to the virus that causes rubella, or German measles.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum sample in the following tubes:

  • Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top)

Notes:

  • To evaluate immune status, collect a single sample

  • To evaluate seroconversion after a recent infection, collect two samples. The second sample should be collected three weeks after the initial sample.

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store serum at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C for no longer than 8 hours

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C for up to 48 hours

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower. Sample may be frozen and thawed up to 3 times.

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Severely hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
