Prostate Specific Antigen (Hybridtech-PSA)
Methodology
The methodology uses a two-site immunoenzymatic “sandwich” assay.
Test Utility
Used as marker for detecting prostate cancer as well by measuring the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: One Gold-top SST tube, minimum volume 4.0 mL
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store serum or plasma at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 3 hours
Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C: 24 hours
Frozen at -70°C: 5 months
Specimen Rejection
Insufficient sample volume
Incorrect sample type
Sample not stored at proper temperature
Frozen whole blood
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
