Methodology

Target specific multiplex reverse-transcriptase amplification and microfluidic-based hybridization to fluorescently labeled beads

Test Utility

Used to detect Parainfluenza 4 from nasopharyngeal swabs collected from individuals with clinical signs and symptoms of a respiratory tract infection.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Nasopharyngeal Swab - specialized swab with longer, flexible shaft and mini-tip (flocked, foam or spun synthetic with aluminum shaft) in the following tubes (1-3 mL): 

  • Copan eSwab 

  • Saline/PBS 

  • UTM/UVT/VTM 

  • MTM/STM 

  • M4/M4RT

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store the swab at the following temperature: 

  • Room Temperature: 25°C ± 2°C up to 24 hours 

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 4 days

Specimen Rejection

  • Received > 4 days after collection 

  • Not transported at 2°C to 8°C 

  • Swab missing -< 200mL volume 

  • Broken or leaking tube  

  • Visible contamination present 

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
