Test Utility

This panel is used as a general screen for multiple conditions that affect metabolic control.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum sample in the following tubes:

  • Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top), minimum 4 mL

  • Lithium Heparin (green top)

Specimen Storage and Stability

Sample should be fully clotted and centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection, and serum separated as soon as possible.

Store serum at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C no longer than 14 hours

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 5 days

  • Frozen: -70°C or lower up to 3 months

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
