Methodology

The lipase procedure is based on the colorimetric method of Imamura, et al.

Test Utility

Lipase levels are used in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the pancreas.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum or plasma sample in the following tubes:

  • Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top)

  • Heparin (green top)

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store serum or plasma at the following temperatures:

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to two weeks

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower indefinitely

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Severely hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

  • EDTA, Potassium oxalate or Sodium fluoride samples
