Methodology

Test Utility

This test is used for the determination of immune status to Hepatitis A and B viruses.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum or plasma sample in the following tubes (minimum volume 4.0 mL):

  • Preferred Specimen: One Gold-top SST tube

  • Purple top: EDTA tube

  • Green top: Sodium or Lithium Heparin tubes

Specimen Storage and Stability

Serum samples should be clotted and centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection then refrigerated.

Plasma samples should be separated within one hour of collection then refrigerated.


Specimen Stability:

  • Room Temperature: Not indicated

  • Refrigerated (2–8°C): up to 72 hours

  • Frozen (-20°C or below): 3 months

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
