Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
Methodology
This test is performed on the ALCOR iSED fully automated Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) analyzer using proprietary technology.
Test Utility
The test can be used in conjunction with other tests to indicate inflammatory responses due to disease or reaction to medications.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Whole blood sample in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: Lavender Top K2 EDTA tube. (Minimum Whole Blood: 2.0 mL)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store whole blood at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 4 hours
Refrigerated 2°C to 8°C: 48 hours
Frozen: Not acceptable
Specimen Rejection
Insufficient sample volume
Sample not stored at proper temperature
Frozen whole blood
Hemolyzed samples
Severely lipemic specimens
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

Monday – Sunday, 16 hours a day
Result available within 24 hours of receipt in laboratory
NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
