Creatine Kinase, Isoenzyme MB (CK-MB)

Viruses Included in Panel

Organisms Included in Panel

Test Utility

Used for the quantitative determination of CK-MB levels in human serum and plasma. CK-MB is one of three isoforms of CK and is expressed in muscle (M) and brain (B). It is often used to determine muscle damage, especially after an acute mycocardial infarction, has occurred.

Note: This test is for the CK-MB isoform. If a total CK level is desired, see Creatine Kinase (CK).

Urine Drug Screen Profile Includes:

Methodology

The CK-MB assay is a two-site immunoenzymatic (“sandwich”) assay that utilizes mouse monoclonal anti-human CK-MB antibodies, paramagnetic particles and chemiluminescence for the quantitative determination of CK-MB on the Beckman Access2 Immunoassay System.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Plasma sample in the following tubes:

  • Lithium Heparin (green top)

Specimen Storage and Stability

Sample should be centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection, and plasma separated as soon as possible.

Store plasma at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C no longer than 8 hours

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 48 hours

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 7 days

Specimen Rejection

  • Specimen received not centrifuged

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Broken or leaking tube

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Clotted or hemolyzed samples

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
