Methodology

Reverse-transcriptase and real-time PCR amplification (RT-qPCR) in the presence of target-specific fluorescence probes.

Test Utility

Used for the qualitative detection of COVID-19 from nasopharyngeal/anterior nares/nasal or oropharyngeal swabs from symptomatic patients.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Nasopharyngeal/anterior nares/nasal or oropharyngeal swabs in the following tubes (1-3 mL): 

  • Copan eSwab 

  • UTM/UVT/VTM 

  • MTM/STM 

  • M4/M4RT

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store the swab at the following temperatures: 

  • Room temperature: 25°C ± 2°C up to 24 hours 

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 7 days

Specimen Rejection

  • Received > 7 days after collection 

  • Swab missing 

  • < 200µL volume 

  • Broken or leaking tube  

  • Visible contamination present 

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
