Methodology

Test Utility

To aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

This test requires 3 different sample types in the following tubes:

  • Red top tube, minimum 3 mL

  • Lithium Heparin tube (green top), minimum 4 mL

  • K2 EDTA (purple top), minimum 3 mL

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store all specimen types at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C no longer than 4 hours

  • Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 24 hours

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 3 months

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Samples not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

Monday – Saturday

Result available within 24 hours of receipt in laboratory

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
