Methodology

This procedure measures the rate of decrease in light intensity due to immune-complex formation.

Test Utility

C-reactive protein (CRP) levels increase when there's inflammation in the body. Inflammation can be due to injury, infection, or chronic disease.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum sample in the following tubes:

  • Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top)

Specimen Storage and Stability

Store serum at the following temperatures:

  • Room temperature: 20°C to 25°C for up to 11 days

  • Refrigerated: 4°C to 8°C for up to 2 months

  • Frozen: -20°C or lower. Please note that frozen samples may produce false-positive results.

Specimen Rejection

  • Insufficient sample volume

  • Sample not stored at proper temperature

  • Frozen whole blood

  • Severely hemolyzed samples

  • Severely lipemic specimens

  • Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
