Methodology
The methodology uses a two-site immunoenzymatic “sandwich” assay.
Test Utility
Used as marker for detecting breast cancer as well by measuring the level of CA 15-3-specific antigen in blood. It may also be used to detect lung, ovarian, pancreatic and colorectal cancers
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum or heparinized plasma sample in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: One Gold-top SST tube, minimum volume 4.0 mL
Also acceptable: One Lithium Heparin tube, minimum volume 3.0 mL
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store serum or plasma at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 8 hours
Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C: 48 hours
Frozen: Not indicated
Specimen Rejection
Insufficient sample volume
Sample not stored at proper temperature
Frozen whole blood
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

Result available within 24 hours of receipt in laboratory
NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
