Methodology
Test Utility
May be used to identify metabolic abnormalities related to electrolyte balance, renal function and glycemic control.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum sample in the following tubes:
Serum separator tube (gold or tiger top), minimum 4 mL
Specimen Storage and Stability
Sample should be fully clotted and centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection, and serum separated as soon as possible.
Store serum at the following temperatures:
Room temperature: 15°C to 30°C no longer than 8 hours
Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 48 hours
Frozen: -20°C or lower up to 3 months

Insufficient sample volume
Sample not stored at proper temperature
Frozen whole blood
Hemolyzed samples
Severely lipemic specimens
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
