Utilizes a two-site immunoenzymatic (“sandwich”) assay
Test Utility
The test is intended to be used in the following indications:
As an aid in the diagnosis of congestive heart failure
As an aid in the assessment of severity of congestive heart failure
For the risk stratification of patients with acute coronary syndromes
For the risk stratification of patients with heart failure
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Plasma sample in the following tubes:
K2 EDTA (purple top)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Samples should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If a delay occurs, the following is recommended:
Blood or plasma: Room temperature: 15°C to 25°C no longer than 7 hours
Plasma: Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 24 hours
Frozen plasma: -20°C or lower up to 7 days

Broken or leaking tube
Insufficient sample volume
Frozen whole blood
Specimen clotted or hemolyzed
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
