Utilizes a two-site immunoenzymatic (“sandwich”) assay
Test Utility
The test is intended to be used in the following indications: -As an aid in the diagnosis of congestive heart failure -As an aid in the assessment of severity of congestive heart failure -For the risk stratification of patients with acute coronary syndromes -For the risk stratification of patients with heart failure
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Plasma sample in the following tubes: -K2 EDTA (purple top)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Samples should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If a delay occurs, the following is recommended:
Blood or plasma: Room temperature: 15°C to 25°C no longer than 7 hours
Plasma: Refrigerated: 2°C to 8°C up to 24 hours
Frozen plasma:
20°C or lower up to 7 days
Specimen Rejection
Broken or leaking tube -Insufficient sample volume
Frozen whole blood
Specimen clotted or hemolyzed
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled

NOTE: Specimens are refrigerated (2-8°) for 7 days before disposal
