Anti-Streptolysin O (ASO)

Methodology

This assay identifies immune complexes that are formed in solution due to antigen-antibody interaction. The rate of decrease in light intensity transmitted (increase in absorbance) is measured by a turbidimeter.

Test Utility

This test looks for antibodies that the body produces against streptolysin O, a toxic enzyme that is produced when the patient has an infection with group A Streptococcus bacteria.
