Methodology
Test Utility
Used in the differential diagnosis of hepatitis viruses from human serum or plasma.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum or plasma sample in the following tubes:
Preferred Specimen: One Gold-top SST tube (minimum volume 4.0 mL)
Specimen Storage and Stability
Serum samples should be clotted and centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes within 1 hour of collection then refrigerated.
Plasma samples should be separated within one hour of collection then refrigerated.
Specimen Stability:
Room Temperature: Not indicated
Refrigerated (2–8°C): 72 hours
Frozen (-20°C or below): 3 months

Insufficient sample volume
Sample not stored at proper temperature
Frozen whole blood
Hemolyzed samples
Severely lipemic specimens
Specimen labeled incorrectly or not labeled
