Methodology
Testing performed on Beckman Coulter Access2 Immunoassay Systems with serum testing.
Test Utility
Used to determine if there is a deficiency that can result in anemia or neuropathy. Also used to evaluate the nutritional status in some people, and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for Vitamin B12 or Folate deficiency.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store samples tightly stoppered at room temperature (15-30C) for no longer than eight hours. If the assay will not be completed within eight hours, refrigerate the samples at 2-8C. If the assay will not be complete by 48 hours, or if a shipment of samples are being sent, freeze at -20C or colder.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Blood serum sample required; EDTA plasma is not recommended. Sample volumes need to be at least 4.0mL in a Gold Top or Tiger SST. Separate serum from contact with red blood ASAP. Sample should be free from hemolysis.
