Methodology

Testing performed on Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU with serum testing.

Test Utility

Used to diagnose overdose and in monitoring levels of Digoxin to ensure appropriate therapy.

Specimen Storage and Stability

Use fresh sample, sample needs to be tested within 8 hours. Sample can be stored refrigerated at 2-8C for up to 7 days or stored frozen (-20C) for up to 6 months. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum sample required; Sample volume needs to be at least 2.0mL gold or Tiger SST. Free from hemolysis, whole blood cannot be used.

  • Improperly labeled

  • Specimen grossly

  • Hemolyzed uncentrifuged

Reference Ranges

Therapeutic Range = 0.8 - 2.0 ng/ml

Performed

Monday - Saturday, 16 hours a day.

Result available after getting the specimen in 5 hours.

STAT results available within 2 hours of receipt in the Laboratory.
