Specimen Storage and Stability

  • Room Temperature (20-26°C) for 2 hours.

  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 24 hours (Specimens greater than 8 hours may be reported with a disclaimer).

Specimen Collection and Preparation

  • Urine sample in a sterile collection container (Minimum 5.0mL).

  • All specimens should be delivered to the laboratory and examined within 2 hours of collection for optimum results. Delay may result in false information being obtained due to possible overgrowth of bacteria and decomposition of urinary constituents.

  • If testing cannot be completed within two hours of collection, refrigerate the specimen for up to 24 hours. Allow specimen to return to room temperature before testing.

  • Do not centrifuge specimens until after wet testing on this system.

Specimen Rejection

  • Urine specimen that has been at room temperature for greater than 2 hours.

  • Urine specimen that has been refrigerated greater than 48 hours.
