Methodology

Testing performed on Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU analyzer.

Test Utility

Used in the risk assessment of coronary artery disease (CAD). Low levels of HDL cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of CAD.

Specimen Storage and Stability

Use fresh sample for analysis when possible. Serum should not remain at 15-30C longer than 14 hours. If analysis is not completed within 14 hours, serum may be stored at 2-8C for up to 1 week. If specimens need to be stored for more than 1 week, they may be preserved at less than -70C for up to 3 months. Samples should only be frozen once.

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum sample drawn from patient after 12 to 14 hours fasting are recommended. 3.0mL Gold Top or Tiger SST. Separate serum from red blood cells as soon as possible (within 3 hours).

  • Specimen grossly

  • Hemolyzed uncentrifuged

Performed

Monday - Saturday, 16 hours a day.

Result available after getting the specimen in 5 hours.

STAT results available within 2 hours of receipt in the Laboratory.

*NOTE: All Specimen Refrigerated (2-8°C) for 7 days only.
