Methodology
Testing performed on Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU with serum testing.
Test Utility
The sodium test system is intended for the quantitative measurement of sodium in serum. Measruement obtained by this advice are used in the diagnosis and treatment of aldosteronism (excessive secretion of the hormone aldosterone), diabetes insipidus, adrenal hypertension, Addison's diseases (caused by destruction of the adrenal glands), dehydration, inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, or other diseases involving electrolyte imbalance.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Separate Serum from blood cells ASAP. Avoid hemolysis. One Gold Top or Tiger SST, 2.0mL. Sodium is stable in serum at least for 7 days at 2-8°C.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum, free from hemolysis, is the recommended specimen.
