Methodology
Testing performed with serum on Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU analyzer.
Test Utility
Measurement used in the diagnosis and treatment of carbohydrate metabolism disorders including diabetes mellitus, neonatal hypoglycemia, idiopathic hypoglycemia, and insulin overdose.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Glucose in serum (SST, refrigerated), free from hemolysis and bacterial contamination, and without added preservatives, is stable for 8 hours when stored at 15-25C, or for up to 72 hours when stored at 2-8C.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Fasting serum sample, free from hemolysis, are recommended. Separate from red cells rapidly to minimize loss of glucose through glycolysis.
