Methodology
Testing performed on Beckman Coulter Access2 Immunoassay Systems with serum testing.
Test Utility
Used for the quantitative evaluation of Folate in serum. Deficiency is usually due to malnutrition, malabsorption due to disease of the proximal small bowel, increased requirements as in pregnancy and chronic hemolytic states, or acute illness. Folate deficiency may result in depression or macrocytic anemias.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Store the serum protected from light and refrigerated at 2-8C. Allow serum samples to clot completely before centrifuge, separate serum from red blood cells ASAP.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
Serum sample recommended, fasting for 6 to 8 hours before sample collection. It is best to test the serum 48 hours from the collection time. Samples need to be refrigerated (2-8C), sample volumes need to be 2.0mL Gold Top or Tiger SST, free from hemolysis, whole blood cannot be used.
