Methodology

Testing performed on Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU analyzing serum.

Test Utility

Used in the diagnosis and treatment of parathyroid disease, a variety of bone diseases, chronic renal failure, and tetany.

Specimen Storage and Stability

Allow SST specimens (Gold Top or Tiger, minimum 2.0mL) to clot 30 to 60 minutes, then immediately centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Refrigerate the specimen (2-8C or 36-46F).

Specimen Collection and Preparation

Serum Calcium is stable for up to 7 days at room temperature (15-25C), approximately 22 days under refrigeration (2-8C) and up to 1 year frozen (-20C or colder).

  • Hemolyzed uncentrifuged

8.6 - 10.3mg/dL

Performed

Monday - Saturday, 16 hours a day.

Result available after getting the specimen in 5 hours.

STAT results available within 2 hours of receipt in the Laboratory.
